Small energy projects like the rocket stoves have already become big players in the market. Since our project falls under this same category by providing small energy needs, we see this product as easily marketable. There is currently only a small number of similar power generation products as this technology is still relatively new.
After spending a semester researching the energy needs in developing countries, our servant engineering team has found that most of these areas lack the energy generation needed to grow. This along with problems of smoke inhalation due to cooking in small homes led us choosing this project. With the access to power comes education, health services, financial awareness, and communication. By providing a means to this resource of power it can help a community grow and strive.
Need lots of amazing and smart people to help complete this project! Any and all help is welcome!
Currently we have been in testing with the system components and working on a power storage/distribution device. The TEG module only needs a few more adjustments to be working at optimal efficiency. By the end of april we are predicting to have a fully functioning model with the ability to store and distribute power to a led lighting system and a USB charging interface. If we were to be selected to receive the money we would use it towards attempt a more complete user friendly product that would be ready for production and sell in the marketplace.
Our team has worked very hard to provide research and incorporate our engineering knowledge into a final project that has the ability to impact the lives of many. Most of our members will be available during May and June and could commit ourselves to furthering our design into something with market value.
Working on this project is inspiring because we can see a functioning product coming together that applies principals we never thought possible. I believe that our project will drastically help people in a significant way by providing a way to help connect them to the world and make their day to day life more convenient.
Our solution is to take the otherwise unused heat energy generated while cooking food or heating the house with wood burning stoves. With the use of an integrated thermo-electric generator system, power is generated, stored, and then distributed for application. The main use of this power is for use in charging USB compatible devices (eg. cell phones) and for lighting applications in the home.
